Description
It is quiet, it is cool, it is morning in the desert before the heat of the day sets in.
Magenta in Zion, the artwork, captures a moment at Zion National Park in Utah, but the woman we are watching is not a tourist, not a traveler passing through on her way to eat at a nearby cafe and plan the next place she will visit. The woman in Magenta in Zion is a woman of grace and beauty, a dancer whose graceful movements and steps translate into a quiet confidence within her very being.
Magenta in Zion invites the viewer to join the woman in her slow, gentle, stately dance, to step into the world of Zion and feel the cool morning air for the brief time that it rests gently upon our skin. This quiet time of tranquility is one to savor, and because it is so beautiful, so ethereal, so filled with a sense of fantasy, it is worth adding movement to our body in the same way we feel the stirring of the soul.
Times of quiet and peace are as necessary to the human spirit as water to drink and air to breathe, but in a society that is busy with being busy, we frequently skip the time we need to do what our culture sees as nothing. Because we are not forced into quiet – as we are to breathe, or we won’t spend many more minutes on the planet – we need to take concerted, definite effort to find time in nature, to imbue ourselves with the sense of its majesty and timelessness.
Most of the time, for most of us, we are unable to step out into a landscape such as that shown in the artwork – but this is where representational art plays a part in soothing our souls and taking us to that place of peace and tranquility. Within the four walls of our home, before we explode into action at the beginning of the day, it is worthwhile to sit down before an image of peace and serenity and allow it to take us away to that place of grace.
